June's Story

“I have learned to kiss the waves that throw me up against the Rock of Ages.” (Charles H Spurgeon)

This quote was read by guest speaker Liz Johnston at our recent Coast Women event, “Clearing the Clutter.” The words had a profound impact upon me.

This past year, my husband and I have been facing what has felt like a tidal wave of adversity, as David battles cancer. The Lord has been faithful every step of the way, but there have been times when, like Peter in Matthew 14,  I have taken my eyes off Jesus and focused instead on the storm. In those times I felt myself beginning to sink.

The wonderful thing in Peter’s story is that Jesus reached out and caught him. He catches me, too and pulls me into His strong embrace.

I am learning that every wave, big or small, has the potential to be used by God to throw me against Himself; the Rock of Ages. And here in His embrace I am safe.

“Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown…” (Isaiah 43:12 )
