August's Story

Patricia McManus

“Every role in the Kingdom of God is filled with adventure, holy romance, drama and an ending that will make only one Name known.” (Natalie Runion: Raised To Stay)

Growing up it was clear I was never going to be up the front leading worship, preaching or leading prayer ministry it just wasn’t where my talents were going to take me. I often struggled, asking God what do I bring to the table?

Since coming along to ACV I have kept asking that question, saying yes to opportunities and stepped onto various teams to serve, some more successfully than others! On the host team I can cheerfully welcome people into our church, I can make tea and coffee to serve at the end of our gathering and in Light Kids I can work with the team to help in our children’s ministry – I can even simply run the hoover round as part of the cleaning rota. The more I become involved in church life the more I realise that serving doesn’t just mean the ‘up the front jobs’ having a servant heart is more than that and everyone gets to play a part.

Earlier this week I read a quote from ‘Raised to Stay’ by Natalie Runion: “Serve where you are, don’t wait for a better role or a more attractive bride. Every role in the Kingdom of God is filled with adventure, holy romance, drama and an ending that will make only one Name known.” Don’t tell yourself you’re not important or what you have to bring in service is too small. Serving is an act of worship to our Lord. I encourage you this month as church activities restart after summer break to prayerfully consider how you can use your talents, gifts and skills to make His name known.
